Outstanding Examination Results 2017
Congratulations to all our students on their amazing achievements in the 2017 summer examinations.
This year the young people of Shoeburyness High School have once again achieved outstanding results. Our students gained 76% 9 - 4 in GCSE English (whereas the national figure was only 62%), 65% in Mathematics (nationally this was 59%) and 74% A*-C in Science (compared with, nationally, 58%).
A level results were also fantastic, with 95% of students gaining passes in their A levels.
In addition, Year 9 students were selected by the government to take part in the TIMMS international study in standards in Mathematics and Science. Not only did our students outperform the rest of England but they ranked 8th in Mathematics and 4th in Science out of 42 countries.
In the press you may have seen articles discussing the lack of social mobility in areas with selective school places. Disadvantaged pupils performed worse, gaining 44% A*-C in Mathematics in selective areas compared to the same pupils in non-selective areas (48% A*-C in Mathematics) in 2015. Our disadvantaged pupils gained 58% A*-C in Mathematics in 2016 and this is currently 64% (9 - 4). Pupil premium link.
